Privacy Policy

Latvia Travel Tales is the operator and data controller for this app. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Latvia Travel Tales mobile app, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

Who's responsible for your data

Latvia Travel Tales, acting as data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us at info@latviatraveltales.lv for any privacy question.

What we collect

Account info. When you sign up, we store your email and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a stable user ID from them and (depending on your choice) your email.

Location. When you use the map, nearby search, or navigation, we read your device's GPS. Your position is used on your device to show the map and guide you. If you pause a navigation session, we save its last position to your account so you can resume later. We also log navigation quality events (distances and timings, tied to your account) to improve the guidance. We don't track where you go outside the app.

Usage. We log basic events like which screens you open and which features you use. We use this to find bugs and decide what to build next.

Your saved data. Favorites, completed places, downloaded regions, and language settings. These sync to your account so you don't lose them when you change devices.

Device info. Device model, OS version, app version, and a push notification token (only if you turn notifications on).

We don't collect contacts, photos, microphone audio, or anything else not listed here.

Why we're allowed to collect this (legal basis)

• Contract - account, subscription, and saved data: we need this to give you the app you signed up for.
• Legitimate interest - usage analytics and bug reports: we have a real interest in keeping the app working.
• Consent - location and push notifications: you turn these on, you can turn them off anytime in your device settings.

Who else sees your data

We work with these companies to run the app. Each one only sees what it needs:

• Supabase - stores your account, favorites, and settings. Hosted in the EU.
• Mapbox - serves map tiles and calculates walking, cycling and driving routes. Receives the coordinates needed to draw the map and the route, not your account details.
• OpenStreetMap contributors - provide the underlying map data.
• RevenueCat - manages subscriptions. Receives a user ID and your purchase history from Apple or Google.
• Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In - handle login. We never see your password.
• Expo / EAS - sends app updates and push notifications.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We don't use third-party analytics or tracking beyond what's listed above.

How long we keep it

• Account and saved data: as long as your account is active.
• Location: the last position of a paused navigation session and navigation quality logs are kept with your account; everything else stays on your device.
• Usage logs: up to 12 months, then deleted.
• After you delete your account: we remove your personal data within 30 days. Some records (like payment receipts) may stay longer if the law requires it.

Your rights

Under GDPR you can:

• See what we have about you
• Correct anything wrong
• Delete your account and data (do this in Settings → Delete account)
• Export your data (email us)
• Withdraw consent for location or notifications (toggle in device settings)
• Complain to the Data State Inspectorate of Latvia if you think we've handled your data badly

Most of these you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email info@latviatraveltales.lv and we'll respond within 30 days.

Children

The app isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you're a parent and think your child has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.

Security

We use HTTPS for everything, encrypted password storage, and limited access controls on our backend. No system is perfectly secure, but we try to follow standard practice and keep dependencies up to date.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything important, we'll show a notice in the app. Small fixes (typos, clarifications) we'll just publish. The date at the top tells you when it last changed.
